How EMDR therapy works
Target and Prepare
Identify specific distressing memories or traumatic experiences and establish a sense of safety and stability.
Process and Reframe
Use guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation to process the memory, helping to reframe and integrate it into a more balanced perspective.
Install and Reinforce
Strengthen positive beliefs and coping strategies, and ensure the newly processed memory no longer triggers distressing reactions.
